Narwal Freo X Ultra
A highly-rated high-quality, highly-functional Gen 4 robot vacuum and mop that adopts a new approach to design and functionality, the Freo X Ultra is a well-built machine. The price of $1,400 is difficult to swallow however, you can find it for sale frequently enough to make the purchase more appealing. The unit is beautiful and the base station takes up very little space in a corner of an area.
The design of this robot is a solution to some problems we've encountered with other robotic mops and vacuum units, such as brushes that get caught in hair and the brush not being able to reach the bare flooring underneath furniture. The ability to sweep floors and carpets is also impressive. The vacuum/mop has an excellent level of debris collection and the mop is able to quickly soak up flooring.
The mops also have a smart system to clean around the edges of furniture and walls. The robot can handle the largest obstacles such as toys, food bowls, shoes, and backpacks with any problem. It could get caught or entangled with smaller, flatter objects like shoelaces and USB cable and pens.
This robot was used to vacuum and mop hardwood flooring FLOR carpet tiles as well as pile rugs in a huge open-plan house. With FREO Mind enabled, it cleaned and mopped the 90m2 area in just 170 minutes, which is close to the average for Gen 4.
Certain features differentiate this robot from other models in its class. The Freo X Ultra has a array of sensors, software, and hardware improvements engineered to keep it at the top of its class. It is said to have autonomy of 3.5 hours for environments of up to 260 square meters.
You can modify a variety of functions from the Freo app, including how often the robot returns to the base station, its mopping frequency and power (silent or smart), and its mopping humidity. The app can identify heavily stained areas and design a cleaning route. It can also dispense detergent, or raise the carpet pads.
Other impressive features include a rapid charging battery, a simple-to-read display on the robot's bottom and a practical dock door that can be opened easily. The Freo X Ultra is the ideal vacuum and mop for home or apartment owners who want to make a difference in their chores while keeping their homes tidy and clean.
Miele Scout RX3
Miele has a reputation of quality and innovation in the world of robotic vacuuming. This new robot aims to take it to the next level with high-end features and superior cleaning performance.
The RX3 comes with dual suction technology, intelligent navigation with 3D mapping, and a camera that transmits live images to your smartphone for simple control. The RX3's powerful four-stage system for cleaning offers excellent dust pickup on hard and carpet flooring, while the intuitive side brushes with a swing-out feature and two suction channels remove dust from corners. Its 8.5 cm height lets it get under furniture that is low. Front cameras and infrared sensor help it navigate barriers, thresholds and obstacles with ease.
In our test of how well it cleaned baking soda from corners and baseboards the Scout RX3 was impressive. Its 2,500Pa of suction was a little weaker than other robots, but it moved quickly and was very quiet. It did not mop and its cleaning pad that was removable was a challenge to attach. It also couldn't handle dried-on dirt.
The app is on the basic side with no advanced features such as multiple cleaning modes and automated scheduling. It does work with Alexa however, its voice controls aren't particularly intuitive or responsive. It's also a bit sporadic when it returns to the charging station following an exercise. Other robots can follow the wall or trace an earlier route however the RX3 stumbles around until it quits.
We also experienced issues with the intelligent features of the device, namely its mapping feature and digital stay-out zones. It was good at keeping our furniture legs and shoes away however it could easily get hung up on socks, cables, and carpets. That's the reason we didn't choose to include it in our Best Buy list. However, with a reasonable price and impressive performance it's a Scout RX3 is worth considering in the event you're looking to find a smarter alternative to traditional uprights.
